LRP1B is a putative tumor suppressor and a member of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor family. The LDL receptor family have roles related to clearance of extracellular ligand and are proposed to be involved in extracellular signal transduction. silencing and down-expression of LRP1B as been observed in renal cell carcinoma and thyroid cancer. Further Deletion of LRP1B has been associated with chemotherapy resistance in high-grade serous cancers. Function: Potential cell surface proteins that bind and internalize ligands in the process of receptor-mediated endocytosis. Subunit: Binds LRPAP1, PLAU, PLAT and SERPINE1; binding is followed by internalization and degradation of the ligands. Subcellular Location: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein Tissue Specificity: Expressed in thyroid gland and in salivary gland, as well as in adult and fetal brain.
